¡ Surface Treated Inorganic Sunscreens ¡

Due to the ultrafine particle size (typically less than 100 nm in primary particle size) and thus high surface reactivity, inorganic particulate sunscreens such as ultrafine TiO2 and ultrafine ZnO need to have their surface modified to enhance:

  • Photostability
  • Ease of dispersion into oil phase
  • Transparency
  • Higher SPF
  • Better wear properties / skin adhesion

We have been offering patented methicone treated inorganic sunscreens by a proprietary process.  The application of methicone and other suitable compounds onto the surface of these inorganic sunscreens inhibits the generation of ROS (reactive oxygen species).  These surface treated inorganic sunscreens can be used in sunscreen lotions without concern for discoloration or oxidation of the oil ingredients.

UFTR-BC Hydrophilic ultrafine titanium dioxide. Coated with Aluminum hydroxide to minimize photooxidative properties and increased water dispersibility.
SI-UFTR-Z Hydrophobic, methicone treated UFTR with a primary particle size of 40 nm. 2% methicone treatment renders better dispersibility into an oil phase. Good for both liquid and powder applications.
SI-TTO-S-3-Z LHC (6%) 6% methicone treated, transparent type ultrafine titanium dioxide with excellent water repellent properties. Extremely transparent and ideal for various skin-care applications.
SI-ZnO-1000-Z LHC Highest quality zinc oxide available from Japan with methicone treatment to minimize the high reactivity of zinc oxide. Most ideal for skin-care products with minimal whitening on skin.
SI-ZnO-2000-Z LHC Methicone treated zinc oxide with high cost performance in various types of cosmetic products with excellent water-repellent properties.
SI-ZnO-2500-Z LHC Methicone treated zinc oxide with high cost performance in various types of cosmetic products with excellent water-repellent properties.
TZ-Powder Type 1 (EU) Novel patented methicone treated TiO2 and ZnO combination for sunscreen lotions. 10% in water/silicone emulsion resulted in in vivo SPF of 15 (Ben-IF-118).
TZ-Powder Type 2 Novel patented methicone treated TiO2 / ZnO / talc combination for powder products. 10 % in a pressed foundation resulted in in vivo SPF of 13 to 16 (TZ-14(2) and TZ-29(1)).
In addition to these products, MiBrid treated sunscreens has been also introduced (Please see "New Products").  MiBrid utilizes novel double layered surface treatments for improved dispersion quality, superior transparency and SPF improvement.
